केंद्रीय और राज्य सरकारें विशेष रूप से बीपीएल परिवारों के लिए डिजाइन की गई विभिन्न सामाजिक कल्याण योजनाओं के माध्यम से इन लाभ प्रदान करती हैं। वर्तमान में, 2018 में नरेंद्र मोदी सरकार द्वारा शुरू की गई कई केंद्र सरकार योजनाओं के तहत लाभार्थियों का चयन और पहले एसईसीसी -2011 डेटा में बीपीएल परिवारों की सूची से किया जा रहा है। इनमें से कुछ प्रमुख योजनाएं केवल बीपीएल परिवारों के लिए थीं, प्रधान मंत्री आवास योजना (ग्रामीण), प्रधान मंत्री उज्ज्वल योजना और सहज बिजली हर घर योजना शामिल हैं।
